Late one snowy Christmas Eve, ten years ago, a hamster lay in his snuggly bed, with his teddy called Raggy. He was listening for the sound of Santas plody boots. Could he be lucky enough to hear them? He hoped he could.
From outside he heared the sound of screeching metal and smokey steam. He ran down the stairs opened the door and saw a gigantic train standing perfectly still in a blanket of steam.
The conductor suluted him as he chewed on some gum. The conductor cried "all aboard" before he helped the hamster up. Inside there was tinsel, a christmas tree and foam. All the hamsters were in there wansies and drinking rich choclaty cocoa. He sat with another group of young friendly hamsters. One of them was called Maddy another called David and the other Harry. They became quite good friends.
Out on the street there were prowling stray cats searching for food. There were big jolly smowmen. It was dark and gloomy. The Polar Express was racing northwards. They swerved through valleys and tunnels. Eventually they reached the north pole.
The conductor announced Santa would choose one of the hamsters that had been good all year to get the first gift of Christmas. The intelligent elves were all gathered in the centre of the gigantic snow city. In a flash Santa apeared. He was round and plump. The elves cheered wildly.
Santa asked the cheerful hamster what he wanted for Christmas. What he hamster wanted more than anything was the ruby red nose of Rudolf. Santa smiled and clutched the nose and pulled it off! He gave it to the hamster and an elf replaced the nose with another red nose. "The first gift of Christmas!" Santa cried.
When the foolish hamster got back on th train he put the nose under his chair. When they got back to his house he looked under his chair but the nose was lost. As he eged his way to the door he felt stupid but luckily he found it next to the door. He felt like the luckiest hamster on earth.
When it was morning he lightly steped down stairs. They opened all the present and he got all the things he wanted. Christmas was complete!
