We really enjoyed visiting Woodlands' Church this morning to experience Christmas Through the Keyhole. It helped us to have some super discussions about the first Christmas.

The Polar Express by Edward
Late one snowy Christmas Eve, ten years ago, a hamster lay in his snuggly bed, with his teddy called Raggy. He was listening for the sound of Santas plody boots. Could he be lucky enough to hear them? He hoped he could.
From outside he heared the sound of screeching metal and smokey steam. He ran down the stairs opened the door and saw a gigantic train standing perfectly still in a blanket of steam.
The conductor suluted him as he chewed on some gum. The conductor cried "all aboard" before he helped the hamster up. Inside there was tinsel, a christmas tree and foam. All the hamsters were in there wansies and drinking rich choclaty cocoa. He sat with another group of young friendly hamsters. One of them was called Maddy another called David and the other Harry. They became quite good friends.
Out on the street there were prowling stray cats searching for food. There were big jolly smowmen. It was dark and gloomy. The Polar Express was racing northwards. They swerved through valleys and tunnels. Eventually they reached the north pole.
The conductor announced Santa would choose one of the hamsters that had been good all year to get the first gift of Christmas. The intelligent elves were all gathered in the centre of the gigantic snow city. In a flash Santa apeared. He was round and plump. The elves cheered wildly.
Santa asked the cheerful hamster what he wanted for Christmas. What he hamster wanted more than anything was the ruby red nose of Rudolf. Santa smiled and clutched the nose and pulled it off! He gave it to the hamster and an elf replaced the nose with another red nose. "The first gift of Christmas!" Santa cried.
When the foolish hamster got back on th train he put the nose under his chair. When they got back to his house he looked under his chair but the nose was lost. As he eged his way to the door he felt stupid but luckily he found it next to the door. He felt like the luckiest hamster on earth.
When it was morning he lightly steped down stairs. They opened all the present and he got all the things he wanted. Christmas was complete!

The Polar Express by Mini
Late one night a girl was in the kitchen listening for the sound of the bell in Santa's pompom. When she perd through the window she saw a conductor standing by a huge boat. When she got in there she saw other children in ther party clothes drinking hot tea as hot and burning as a radiator.
Through the window she saw suspicious wolves wanitng to eat some deer in a creepy forest. On the way she saw weird faces looking like they were looking at her. In the air it was coal black. Eventually they reached France.
As they departed the boat the conductor announced that Santa would choose one of the children to give the first gift of Christmas. Suddenly Santa appeared and pointed at her across the crod. "Now what would you like for christmas" Santa said to the girl. All the reindeers pranced and paced ringing the bells on their harnesses. Just then Santa said to the girl come on my slay and I will find the present you want. What she wanted more than anything was the bauble from Santas hat. So Santa yanked the bauble from his hat and called "The first gift of Christmas!"
As the clock struck midnight the girl popped it in her pocket and got on the boat. The children asked to see the bauble but when she popped her hand in her pocket all she could find was a hole. It ws lost forever! When she got home she plodded down the stairs feeling all diflated. When all the presents were unrapped there was a really weird decoration on the tree. It had her name on it. It was th bauble Santa gave her for Christmas. Christmas was complete.

Archaeologists in the making
On Wednesday, we had a brillaint trip to the Museum. It was great fun trying to work out where in Egypt certain artefacts had been found and then looking at items which were thousands of years old in the museum. Of course, the shop was great fun too!

The Christmas Bazaar
I'm sure that some of you will know by now that today we have been talking about the Christmas Bazaar. This exciting event takes place next Friday afternoon (5th December). As part of the Christmas Bazaar, the children are invited to run their own stalls which they always greatly enjoy!
I have re-iterated that the simpler ideas are the best, for example, sweets in the jar, pin the tail on the donkey etc. and have tried to lead the children towards there types of stalls. They have a lot of good ideas.
We do ask for a little help from you, in providing small prizes, sweets work well, which the children can use for their stalls. Along with suggesting simple ideas, I have also talked to the children about the cost and quantity of prizes, so hopefully they won't be asking you for too much!
Please do ask any questions about this and thank you in advance for your support!

The first gift of Christmas...
Christmas has come early in 3K, and so has The Polar Express. This week we have enjoyed sharing this story and learning our own version, using pictures and actions. The children have written their own, super story maps like this one, with different colours for key words, pictures and punctuation.
Today we have talked about different elements of language, such as nouns, adjectives and adverbs, and have used these to write some super sentences based on The Polar Express.
Kitty- The Gigantic Polar Express frantically rushed along the snow covered road.
Sophie- A young boy ws peacefully in his bed while the snow fell gently.
Jude- The colossal, dirt covered train cut through the night air.
Alfie- Gracefully, beautiful snowflakes flew down and landed quietly.

We're all poets and we know it!
What a lovely few weeks of English! I'll admit that I'm not always the biggest fan of teaching poetry but I have been blown away by the children's creativity over the last few weeks and have very much enjoyed reading and hearing their creations. Well done 3k!

Buidling work commences...
Having played a great gane yesterday, to collect and memorise as much information about Ancient Egyptian houses as possible, and also looked the pictures we found for our homework, today, 3K set to work making our own version of an Ancient Egyptian houses. The Ancient Egyptian mud bricks weren't very strong and crumbled after a few years. Unfortunately, our Play Doh bricks aren't even likely to last that long!

Only one kissing photo as promised...
Thank you all for your very kind wedding present. It was very generous of you.
A few of the children have seen a couple of photos, but I'm still in the process of narrowing 1500ish down to a sensible number so am yet to complete all of their photo requests! I thought you might like to see one of my lovely bridesmaids and only one kissing photo, as promised to a few of the girls! Yuck!
